Chest Fever: The Official Revival of The Band

The Band left behind a timeless legacy of unforgettable music and a vast catalog of fabled songs. Band members Garth Hudson, Levon Helm, Richard Manuel, Rick Danko and Robbie Robertson embodied a musical alchemy that has been firmly cemented in myth and legend. Their impact on rock music and culture is permanently etched in the hallowed halls of American history.

Officially approved by Robbie Robertson, Chest Fever is comprised of keyboardist Jody Bagley, guitarist Dan Cervantes, and bassist Blake Dean of the San Diego Music Award winning rock band Mrs. Henry, rounded out with organist/saxophonist Ben Pinnola, and drummer Allan Ritter.

“We set out from the get-go to interpret these songs rather than recreate or pay tribute” explains Bagley. Dean continues, “Like Leonard Bernstein, the goal is to bring to life compositions from one of the great catalogs in the history of music. We like to say at every show: “We are a band playing the Band’s music.” Our band is Mrs. Henry, performing as Chest Fever. It’s like Bruce Wayne by day and Batman by night.”

JB Strauss: Saints of The South Record Release

From the alluring southern city of Macon, Georgia and a family steeped in oral tradition, JB Strauss meshes music with storytelling in effortless fashion. Influenced by the heavy, electric style of bands like The Allman Brothers, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and Lynyrd Skynyrd along with poetic and witty writers like John Prine, Gram Parsons, and Jim Croce, it is fitting JB borrows from the notion that ‘everything that rises must converge.’ Also noteworthy are the years JB spent with family and friends on Georgia’s Golden Isles. His music is redolent of the intricacies and depth of life in the marshes and intracoastal waterways and leans on their life-giving elements to feed the soul when the rivers of home run murky.

As JB followed in both of his grandfathers’ footsteps, achieving a law degree all his own, he learned the stories hidden beneath the surface of life in the South. The musical result is an ability to deftly balance the human qualities of contradiction with spiritual redemption. “These songs are part of the foundation of who I am as a person and now as an artist,” JB says.

JB’s first full length studio album, Saints of the South, is set for release May 9, 2024 and features the moody redemption song, “Ocmulgee Moon,” good time boot stomper “Worth a Whiskey,” and “Abilene,” a catchy country song with a class rock feel.

Bug Hunter & The Narcissist Cookbook

Bug has a way of writing and producing songs that make you think, smile, laugh, and every now and then, cry. He writes stories, that become songs. His words are well thought and clever, with tunes that keep you repeating the chorus over and over when you should be thinking about something else. We love that he is a real person, who is on the other side of the world from us, who feels more like a mate, than the music icon he is fast becoming. Take It Back was one out of the box, a totally different story to his usual, and like all of his songs, it made you think, and when you’re in the right mood, cry. TAMMY WILSON, ON "TAKE IT BACK"

“Throw folk storytelling, five-rounds-rapid punk monologues and some sloppy rap into a blender, hit ‘liquify’ and forget about it until you come back half an hour later to find it dripping from the kitchen walls, seeping into the gap between the oven and the sideboard, your cat lapping apathetically at a congealing pool next to the fridge, your cockatiel in a flap around the ceiling lamp panicking lumps out of its tailfeathers and into your morning coffee.

Congratulations, you have physically manifested abstract concepts and are probably a God, or at the very least some kind of demiurge, and you have nothing better to do with your days than approximate the sound of the Narcissist Cookbook.

Josiah Queen

A young Josiah Queen, only 9 years old, attended a young adults’ conference with tens of thousands of believers in Kansas City, accompanied by his parents. Amidst the buzz of the event, he encountered God for the first time, and his life was completely changed. After this event, Josiah recalls having the desire to write his own worship songs.

Guided by the verses of Psalms from the Bible, Josiah translated his newfound spiritual connection into melodies on his piano. The words of the scriptures became the building blocks of his compositions, infusing his music with a depth that resonates with the human experience.

Jimmy Hall & The Prisoners of Love w/ Jackson Stokes

Jimmy Hall first gained popularity as the lead vocalist, saxophonist, and harmonica player for the band Wet Willie, emerging from Mobile, Alabama. His unique brand of R&B-infused rock and roll and onstage swagger propelled the group’s signature song Keep on Smilin’ to the Top 10 on the Billboard singles chart in 1974.  After seven albums with Capricorn Records, Wet Willie moved forward to Epic Records releasing the singles Street Corner Serenade and Weekend. Both singles hit the US Top 40 and five other songs were placed in the Billboard Top 100.

His songs have been recorded by Gregg Allman, Jason Isbell, The Marshall Tucker Band, Blackberry Smoke, The Amazing Rhythm Aces, Johnny Russell, and many others. Additionally, Jimmy has been a vocalist and bandleader for Hank Williams, Jr. since 1992. Over the years, Jimmy has been involved in other musical endeavors including The Nighthawks, BHLT (Betts, Hall Leavell, and Trucks), the Gregg Allman Band, and has appeared as a featured guest artist with multiple groups.

When Jackson Stokes latest solo release, Passengers Volume One, arrived as a contender for Rock’s Top 20 chart in October of 2023, Jackson Stokes posted another notch on his growing list of accolades. Whether as a seasoned bandleader, sought-after ensemble player, or valued collaborator, the rock/soul singer-songwriter from St Louis, Missouri continues to rise as a coveted musical commodity. And with tens of thousands of touring miles logged across four continents- including, in 2023, a World Record achievement; performing 50 shows in 50 U.S. states in 49 days with the Devon Allman Project and Donavon Frankenreiter- Stokes is, as well, the consummate rock-and-roll road dog.

WMOT'S Wired In with Sarah Jarosz and John R. Miller

The seventh full-length from four-time Grammy Award-winner Sarah Jarosz, Polaroid Lovers is an album-long meditation on those strangely ephemeral moments that indelibly shape our lives. “What I love about a Polaroid is that it's capturing something so fleeting, but at the same time it makes that moment last forever,” says the Texas-born singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist. “It made sense as a title for a record where all the songs are snapshots of different love stories, and there's a feeling of time being expansive despite that impermanence.” Thanks to the rarefied alchemy that infuses all of Jarosz's output—her finely wrought lyricism, ravishing vocal work, virtuosic yet unfettered musicality—Polaroid Lovers performs the much-needed magic of leading us toward a heightened sense of presence, all while casting a lovely spell with her timelessly powerful songs.

John R Miller is a true hyphenate artist: singer-songwriter-picker. Every song on his thrilling upcoming debut solo album, Depreciated, is lush with intricate wordplay and haunting imagery, as well as being backed by a band that is on fire.  One of his biggest long-time fans is roots music favorite Tyler Childers, who says he’s “a well-travelled wordsmith mapping out the world he’s seen, three chords at a time.” Miller is somehow able to transport us to a shadowy honkytonk and get existential all in the same line with his tightly written compositions. Miller’s own guitar-playing is on fine display here along with vocals that evoke the white-waters of the Potomac River rumbling below the high ridges of his native Shenandoah Valley.

Doors will open at 6pm. RSVP through your Wired In email invite.

Katie Pruitt is living proof of music’s power to transform the way we experience the world. Naked Truth, on Alligator Records, is steeped in the folk blues traditions of Muddy Waters, Skip James, Son House, Robert Johnson and even Leo Kottke. To the casual fan, this might seem to be a new direction for Ellis, known for his blistering electric guitar work, but for Ellis, it’s an extension of his music, as he taps into the raw essence of the blues. “This is a record I’ve always wanted to make, and one that my longtime fans have been asking for,” he says. Since his first Alligator album in 1988, Georgia Blue, Ellis has gone from local Atlanta club favorite to become an internationally touring blues rock giant, performing hundreds of nights per year. “He did his own thing, had his own sound and was never a person who chased trends. He was a close friend of the band and he clued me into the fact that cowboy stuff, including the music, translates south of the border. The West is the West,” Lund says. “Ian’s writing partner and our mutual friend, Tom Russell, used to call him ‘El Viejo,’ meaning ‘the old one’ or ‘the wise one.’ His death was a big loss for everybody — this record is in honor of my friend, Ian Tyson – El Viejo

During moments like these, California-born and Nashville-based singer and songwriter Emily Nenni chronicles her life through delicate songcraft rife with honky-tonk spirit and spiked with just the right amount of soul. WMOT'S Wired In Featuring: Charlie Mars and Jobi Riccio

Join WMOT’S wired in for a wonderful night of music with Jobi Riccio and Charlie Mars. Born and raised in Morrison, Colorado - a tourist town in the foothills outside of Denver that’s home to Red Rocks Amphitheater - Jobi Riccio grew up surrounded by music and found inspiration in artists ranging from Sheryl Crow to Joni Mitchell.  Sonically, Jobi’s music exists between worlds, melding the classic craftsmanship of her songwriting with modern indie-leaning production to forge a lush, expansive sound that feels traditional and experimental all at once.

Mars started playing for Jack Ingram in 1992 ("The Charlie Mars Band"). Mars has a floating, mellow croon combined with sensual soul-rock arrangements. Mars has been compared to Jason Mraz and Josh Rouse, and described as a tougher edged version of Jeff Buckley. Mars says that songs come to him spontaneously, and that he relies on the quality and memorability of the material to remember what he creates.

Jared Finck Album Release Show With Special Guest Donna Ulisses

For one night only join Jared Finck for his album release show. Backed by some of Nashville’s top musicians, Cody Kilby, Andy Leftwitch, Matt Menefee, and Bryon House.  Raised in South Dakota, Jared’s family had always been musical. The family would sing on occasion, accompanied by dad on guitar and older sister on piano. Jared’s musical journey started at age 12. It was at this time his older sister married and moved away. Losing their piano player, Jared‘s dad decided to look into playing Bluegrass style music and one day he brought home a mandolin, a dobro and a bass guitar! Originally, Jared assumed the role of mandolin player but quickly added dobro to the list. He would later take up guitar, banjo and fiddle.  At age 14 Jared met Noah Sigmann, a musician who was skilled at playing all the bluegrass instruments. This encounter made a big impression on Jared, inspiring him to work towards excelling at all the instruments not just one or two. For the next couple of years, Noah would introduce Jared to the more progressive side of bluegrass by loaning him CDs of bluegrass legends, such as a Tony Rice, Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, Rob Ikes, Chris Thile and many more.

IV and the Strange Band with Ivan Macleod and Corey Parsons

"Patience is a virtue." Those words are tattooed across Coleman Williams' right arm, forever reminding the alternative-country singer/songwriter of the benefits of taking one's time. The lesson wasn't always so clear. As the great-grandson of Hank Williams Sr., grandson of Hank Williams Jr., and only son of Hank 3, Coleman spent years waging an internal battle with the expectations thrust upon him by his own lineage. He represented the fourth generation of country music's most legendary family — hence his nickname, "IV" — and the pressure to launch his own career was enormous. Although Coleman would eventually make his mark with Southern Circus — the genre-bending debut from his band, IV and the Strange Band, combining southern storytelling and country textures with 100-watt guitar amps and DIY attitude — he needed to break free first and discover his own musical approach along the way.

The 48 Hour Film Project is the world’s oldest and largest timed filmmaking competition. If you want the real deal, this is it! 130 cities in 6 different continents compete each year. Teams are given a character, prop and line of dialogue to include in their films on Friday night at 7pm. Then by Sunday night they must turn in a completed short by 7:30pm to be considered on time.

The 48 Hour Film Project is all about creativity, fun and community. For 20 years the Nash48 has been helping local creatives connect to make films in Nashville.

The 2023 Nash48 Award Show is a celebration of the best of this year’s competition! Who will take home the title of Best Film in Nashville? Join us to find out!
